BRECKENRIDGE — Drivers on M-46 east of St. Louis have about two more weeks of lane closures ahead, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation’s schedule for a $3.7 million resurfacing project.
MDOT says it is investing approximately $3.7 million to resurface about 12.5 miles of M-46 from Croswell Road to the west village limit of Merrill, in Gratiot and Saginaw counties. The department lists a start date of Sept. 8 and an end date of Friday, Oct. 16.
Traffic is being maintained with single-lane closures and flaggers. Starting the week of Sept. 15, MDOT said, a detour would be posted at the railroad crossing in the village of Breckenridge while the crossing is rebuilt. The department describes the work as weather-dependent, so the end date can move.
The state’s release does not name the contractor or the detour route, and it does not say how long the crossing will be closed. MDOT estimates the project supports about 31 jobs, a figure that comes from the department’s economic modeling rather than a count of workers.
M-46 is a state trunkline, so the project is paid for and managed by the state, not by the county road commission or the village. Questions go to MDOT’s Bay Region office at 989-573-1274.
