Local Alerts and Scanner Links
Official weather alerts, the forecast and river levels for Gratiot County, loaded live from federal agencies, and links to the volunteer-run scanner feeds if you want to listen. Nothing on this page is a substitute for 911.
In an emergency, call 911. Do not wait for this page, and do not report an emergency to us. For a power line down, call your utility; for weather warnings, follow the instructions in the alert itself.
Official data, live
These cards load straight from the National Weather Service and the U.S. Geological Survey when you open the page, and refresh every five minutes while it stays open. Each shows when the source last updated. If a source does not answer, the card says so and links to the agency.

Other official sources
These agencies either do not offer a free public data feed or limit how their data may be reused, so we link to them instead of copying anything.
- Mi Drive road conditions MDOT closures, construction, crashes and cameras for US-127, M-46, M-57 and county roads. MDOT’s terms bar commercial reuse of its data, so we link out.
- Consumers Energy outage map Check or report a power outage (800-477-5050). If your power comes from a city utility, such as St. Louis, ask that city office.
- Gratiot County RAVE Alert The county’s official free alert system from Gratiot County 9-1-1. Text GC911 to 67283 to sign up.
- Gratiot County Central Dispatch / 911 Monthly call statistics and contacts. The county does not publish a live incident log that we could find.
- AirNow air quality EPA air quality for the Alma area. AirNow’s data service requires a key, so there is no live card for it.
- Michigan State Police Statewide news and alerts.
Listen live: volunteer scanner feeds
What this is. Volunteers with radio receivers stream Gratiot County public-safety radio through a service called Broadcastify. We do not run these feeds, we do not host or copy any audio, and we cannot vouch for them. Broadcastify’s terms do not allow other websites to embed its live audio without a license, so the buttons below open the feed on Broadcastify’s own site.

Read this before you listen
- Volunteer-run and delayed. Streams lag real events and drop out. What you hear may be minutes old.
- Unverified and often wrong. Dispatchers relay early, incomplete and sometimes mistaken information. Names, locations and details change or turn out to be wrong.
- Not everything is heard. Some agencies or channels can be encrypted or moved to private channels at any time. As of the last public database record we found (a RadioReference thread from May 2023), Gratiot County’s statewide MPSCS talk groups showed no encryption, but we could not re-check that today and it can change. A quiet feed does not mean a quiet county.
- Ads. Broadcastify plays a short ad before the feed for listeners without a paid account.
- We do not verify or publish names heard on a scanner, and we do not run the feeds.
The Crime Radar and NewsBreak apps are separate companies. Their terms forbid copying or republishing their content and automated access, so nothing on this page comes from them.
How to read scanner traffic responsibly
- Treat it as a tip, never as a fact. Wait for the sheriff, the fire department, the city or the county to confirm something before you repeat it.
- Do not share names, ages or addresses of people you hear about. A person at the center of a call may be a victim, a child, someone in a medical crisis or simply wrong.
- Do not go to a scene because of something you heard. Crowds block crews and put you at risk.
- Do not post what you hear to social media. Rumors travel faster than corrections.
- Do not broadcast responder positions or plans. What is said on the radio about where crews are, or what they intend to do, can endanger them.
- Know the law. Listening to unencrypted public-safety radio is generally legal in Michigan. Using a scanner to commit or avoid a crime is not.
Our rules for scanner traffic
Gratiot County Whistleblower follows these rules. They are also written in our repository so they apply to everyone who works on the site.
- A scanner is a tip, not a source. Nothing heard on a scanner is reported until it is checked against an official record or confirmed by the responsible agency.
- We never transcribe or republish scanner traffic. No quotes, no summaries of what was said, no audio clips.
- We never publish names, ages or addresses of private individuals taken from scanner traffic, and we do not publish medical details.
- We never publish tactical details that could put responders or victims at risk.
- We never post scanner traffic to social media. This page does not post anything anywhere automatically.
- We stay out of the way. We do not send people to scenes.
Our general rules, including when we ask an office for comment before publishing, are on How We Work.
Report something
Emergency or crime in progress: call 911.

A news tip or a problem with this page: email contactus@gcwhistleblower.com. Tell us what you saw and where an official record might exist. Please do not send names of private people or medical details, and do not use this address for emergencies; we read it on a normal schedule, not around the clock.
What each card uses
- Weather alerts:
api.weather.gov/alerts/active?zone=MIC057, free and open, no key. U.S. government data. - Forecast:
api.weather.gov/gridpoints/GRR/74,65/forecast. - River levels: USGS Water Data API, Maple River at Maple Rapids (site 04115000, just south of the county line) and Pine River near Midland (site 04155500, downstream of Gratiot County). USGS discontinued the Pine River gauge at Alma in 2009, so these two are the nearest working gauges on our rivers.
- Your browser contacts those agencies directly. We do not collect anything about your visit beyond our normal site statistics. See Privacy.
