This page explains, in plain language, what information this website does and does not collect. We try to collect as little as possible.

Technical information and server logs
Like nearly every website, this one is delivered through hosting and network services that automatically process technical information when a page is requested. That can include your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested and the date and time. This information is used to deliver the site, keep it running and protect it from abuse.
Visit counts
We use a privacy-focused, cookie-free analytics service to count visits and see which pages are read. It does not use cookies, does not build profiles of individual readers and does not follow you to other websites. We see totals, such as how many times a page was viewed, not who viewed it.
The contact form and other forms
The contact form, and the other forms on this site, prepare an email in your own email app. The website does not save your entry, and nothing is sent until you review the message and press Send.
Email you send us
Email sent to [email protected] is received and kept in the publication's email account, the same as any email you send to anyone. It includes your email address and anything you choose to write or attach. Our email provider may apply automated spam filtering to incoming mail.
Community achievements
Community achievement submissions are intended for public display. They reach us by email and are reviewed by an editor. Approved achievements are stored on the website and shown publicly, along with the display name and community you chose to provide. Your email address is not published. Do not include information in a submission that you do not want published. See the Community Submission Policy, including how to request removal.
Tips and sensitive information
Ordinary email is not a secure channel. Please avoid sending confidential or highly sensitive information through the contact form or ordinary email, and think about whether the address you write from, or details in your message, could identify you. If you want your name withheld from publication, say so in your message. We do not publish a source's name without permission.
Links to other sites
Our reports link to government websites, documents, video recordings and social-media pages. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control.
