Sheriff Tom Clark’s release, posted on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page on Nov. 4.

SEVILLE TOWNSHIP — A 43-year-old Saginaw woman died Nov. 3 in a crash involving several vehicles on West Monroe Road, the Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies were sent to the 8500 block of West Monroe Road at about 3:49 p.m., according to a release from Sheriff Tom Clark.

What the Sheriff’s Office says happened

The release describes the crash this way, from what it calls preliminary investigations (Sheriff’s Office release):

  • A vehicle slowed or stopped on West Monroe Road to turn into a driveway.
  • A second vehicle, driven by a 36-year-old Edmore man, slowed or stopped to allow the turn.
  • A third vehicle, driven by a 41-year-old Vestaburg woman, “failed to stop and rear-ended the second.”
  • The second vehicle “was then forced into the eastbound lane and struck a vehicle head on.”
  • The driver of that vehicle, a 43-year-old woman from Saginaw, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash,” the release says. “The crash remains under investigation.”

Who responded

The release lists the Alma Police Department, Alma District Fire/Rescue, the St. Louis Police Department, Michigan State Police, MMR, Gratiot County Central Dispatch, the Gratiot County Road Commission and Gratiot Towing as assisting the Sheriff’s Office.

What we do not know yet
