Cover of the county’s Invitation to Bid for Project 10-26. Gratiot County public record.
ITHACA — Gratiot County is taking sealed bids through Friday to rebuild the parking lot at its Commission on Aging building, according to an Invitation to Bid the county released Aug. 21.
The specification, Project No. 10-26, describes about 43,000 square feet of existing asphalt to be pulverized, regraded and paved with 2.5 inches of hot-mix asphalt, then restriped, including accessible parking spaces. Bids must reach the county administrator’s office at 214 E. Center St. by 11 a.m. Sept. 25; they are opened at 11:01 a.m. Written questions were due Sept. 15. The document says the Board of Commissioners is scheduled to consider an award at its Oct. 6 meeting.
The invitation does not state a budget or engineer’s estimate. It says bids will be judged in part on the “reasonableness of total contract price in relation to the current budget,” and it requires performance and payment bonds if the contract exceeds $50,000.
For scale, the county’s fiscal 2026 general-fund budget is roughly $19.2 million. A parking-lot rebuild of this size is a routine capital item, but it is one of the few county purchases in this cycle that will be opened in public and awarded on the record, so the numbers will be easy to check.
