EAST LANSING — Ezekiel Baltierra of Alma won the boys Bronze Division, Division 2 race at the 2026 Spartan Invitational with a reported time of 16 minutes, 5 seconds.
MileSplit Michigan's race recap says Baltierra moved ahead early and won by 15 seconds. Petoskey won the team competition with 102 points; Alma finished second with 118.
In cross-country, a team's score is the sum of its top five runners' finishing places, so the lowest total wins. A 16-point gap means Petoskey's scoring runners finished, on average, about three places ahead of Alma's.
MileSplit credited Petoskey's win to a strong finish from its top two runners, Reeve Oberman and Jack Frentz, and called the result an upset based on preseason ratings that had Alma among the top five teams. The recap does not list places or times for those two runners.
The Sept. 11 meet was held at Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing. Michigan State University hosted the 45th annual Spartan Invitational, which included college and high-school competition.
